Soto Betawi, located at Jl. Veteran Utara No.288, Maradekaya, Kec. Makassar, Kota Makassar, Sulawesi Selatan, is a beloved gem in the heart of Makassar. Known for its rich flavors and authentic Indonesian dishes, this restaurant stands out as a must-visit spot for those craving hearty and satisfying meals. With its signature soto, this place offers a deep dive into the heart of Betawi culinary culture.

When you step into Soto Betawi, you’re greeted by the warm, welcoming atmosphere of a local eatery that exudes charm and character. The restaurant’s decor is simple yet inviting, allowing guests to focus on what really matters-the food. As you settle into your seat, it’s clear that this is a place where flavor takes center stage, with a menu that’s as rich as the heritage of the dish it serves.

The star of the menu is undoubtedly the Soto Betawi, a traditional Indonesian soup that originates from the Betawi region of Jakarta. Known for its creamy coconut milk base, this dish is filled with tender pieces of beef, rich spices, and a variety of fresh herbs that elevate its flavors. The broth itself is a masterpiece of Indonesian cooking, offering a balance of savory and slightly sweet notes. This dish is typically enjoyed with a side of rice, and sometimes, a piece of fried tempeh or potato cakes for added texture and taste.

At Soto Betawi, the preparation of this iconic dish is taken seriously. Each bowl of soto is carefully crafted, ensuring that the broth is packed with layers of flavor. The use of local, fresh ingredients is key to the restaurant’s approach, and it shows in the final product. The meat is slow-cooked to perfection, allowing it to absorb all the aromatic spices, making each bite a delight. The vegetables, which include tomatoes and cabbage, add a crisp freshness that balances out the richness of the broth.

One of the things that sets Soto Betawi apart from other places serving this dish is the consistency of quality. Whether you're a first-time visitor or a regular patron, you can always expect the same exceptional taste. The restaurant prides itself on its dedication to maintaining the authenticity of the recipe while providing a comfortable dining experience. Whether you choose to dine in or take your meal to go, the quality remains unwavering.

The restaurant offers a variety of other dishes to complement the soto. Their nasi goreng (fried rice) and ikan bakar (grilled fish) are also standout choices for those looking to explore more of Indonesian cuisine. For dessert, you can try a sweet treat like kue cubir, a traditional cake that offers a delightful end to your meal.

  • The best soto Betawi in town IMHO. Though I am not sure what real soto Betawi looks like, since there are lots of cuisine bearing the same name but have totally different taste & style.

  • My favorites soto.. Especially when you like traditional Makassar's soup with meat

  • This is a simple restaurant that provides Soto Betawi in clear soup. The Soto Betawi here is different with the one in Jakarta that is served with coconut milk soup. For the beef, we could choose the mixed part or several parts of the beef that we like. I tried Soto Betawi (IDR 30,000) with white rice sprinkled with fried onions (IDR 5,000). Mixed part of beef that consists of meat, tongue, brain, tripe, lung, heart in a clear soup with green onions, fried onions, and eggs. Served it with sweet soy sauce and chili for the best taste.

  • This Soto Betawi is totally different from the original one from Jakarta. This is the Makassar version of soto Betawi. The soup is slightly less heavy than the usual one. It's worth to try but you need mind the price as it is more expensive then other street food/restaurants (like the legend Coto Makassar) you can find around the city.

  • I don’t know if “SOTO BETAWI” is their brand or it’s the thing that they serve here. Because I never try any soto betawi except this place. Olrait, about the soup that they serve here is so fresh to me, delight sensation, you know right there are some food that leave so much taste in your neck but it’s not. They serve meat and many other parts of cow’s lung and heart are my favorite. I always miss this food.
